Natural gas supplies nearly one-fourth of all of the energy used in the United States.  It is among the least expensive and most efficient ways to fuel appliances. Natural gas pipes are typically made from galvanized or black iron for interior work and PE (polyethylene) pipe for underground use. Last-leg fittings and tubes which connect the stub-outs to various appliances are sometimes made from copper and brass.

Along with the advantages of natural gas, homeowner need to be aware of safety concerns and responsibilities.  One must have the correct fittings and place them in appropriate junctions to avoid dangerous leaks. Hence, due to the potential dangers, only a licensed plumber should install and/or repair gas systems.  If you ever encounter the notorious “rotten egg” odor, you should contact your utility company immediately to avoid further issues.
