Water Heater Repairs
If your water heater is less than six years old, it is still under the manufactures warranty. In many cases, the first year the manufacturer will pay for labor and parts for your water heater to be repaired. Normally, years two through six, the manufacturer will only pay for parts.
The most common parts to be replaced on an electric water heater are the elements. Typically there is an upper and a lower element which heat the water in the tank. It is not uncommon for them to rust and need to be replaced.
On gas water heaters, the gas valve can go out more often than it stops working. If you are without hot water, call Zippy Zebra today and one of our qualified technicians can save the day!

Additionally, you may also avoid other costly repairs due to age. Call Zippy Zebra Plumbing today to have your water heater replaced!
Tankless Water Heaters
Tankless water heaters are not a new technology. Due to space restrictions in Europe, they have been using this technology for years. They have just recently increased in popularity in the United States.
How Tankless Water Heaters Work
A tankless water heater allows for instant hot water. That does not imply the water is immediately hot once you turn on the tap; it still take time for the water to reach the tap as it does with a tank system. The difference is that a tankless system does not store water and heat repeatedly. Once you have turned the water on, it heats the water as it goes through the pipes.
Hot Water Flow
If the water heater is powered by gas or propane, it will ignite a small fire and heat the water as it passes by. The heated water travels down the pipes to the faucet. The water heater must be vented through an outside wall. This is different from the tank type where the vent generally goes through the attic. With that, the vent for the tankless water heater will cost nearly as much as the heater system. You will need to have a plumber and electrician install this system for you. The gas and water pipes will need to be rerouted to accommodate the new system along with the electrical connections.
Tank-Style Water Heaters
An electric tankless system is somewhat different from a gas or propane powered system. A heating element exists inside the pipe that heats the water as it passes through. The element turns on as soon as you turn on the hot water and continues to heat the water until you turn off the tap. There is no need for an electrical system to be vented. Therefore, you can place your tankless electric water heater in almost anyplace you seek. You will need a plumber to relocate the lines and an electrician to connect the heater to the appropriate breakers. An electrical tankless hot water heater requires two or more 220-volt 40 to 60 amp circuits. It is best to have a certified electrician install it for you.
If you are thinking about switching over to a tankless hot water system, there are several factors to consider. It can give you just as much hot water in relatively the same amount of time. It will also save you money in the long run because you will not be using the energy to keep reheating the water. It occupies less space and is a much safer system to operate.
